Frequently Asked Questions on Wallets (FAQs)
What is a Wallet?
A wallet is a place to store your coins.
What is an IOP Address?
Your IOP Address is the public address people can use to send money to you. It is not possible to send coins only from a public key, so you can share it freely.
How do I keep my IOP´s secure?
With Desktop Wallet:
Encrypt your wallet with a very strong password and back it up on a USB stick or external hard drive.
With Mobile Wallet:
Choose a strong pin and write down the mnemonic phrase and put it on a secure spot. In case of phone theft or loss you can restore your wallet with that phrase. Do not show anyone because who knows that phrase can restore your wallet and send coins! Best practice is not to keep a large sum in your mobile wallet.
Why should I store IOP in a wallet instead of an exchange?
Some features like signing a message are not possible when you keep your coins are on an exchange. Also you are not in direct control of your coins, also you cannot guarantee that your coins are safe due to several hacking incidences of exchanges in the past.
